The description of the Riesling Grosses
Gewächs from the Dorsheimer Goldloch
reads like a staccato of breathlessly
whispered superlatives: “finest juicy acidity,
perfectly-ripened fruit, spice, minerality, layers
upon layers, finesse.” How else would you
frame what almost comes across as magic into
words? Caroline Diel just manages to achieve
that rare interplay of density, finesse and luminosity
in her top wines and does so with seemingly
effortless naturalness. We could just continue
with this poetic appraisal. But let us be
brief instead, a huge applause for this performance!

Depth, substance, juicy yellow fruit, tangerine, sweet nectarine,
peach and spicy minerality. Integrated with clear volume,
deep grip, fine acidity and perfectly ripened fruit. Spicy
minerality, complexity and finesse. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
95 2018 Dorsheim Burgberg Riesling GG
Mineral spice, stone, light fruit and fennel seed scents. Evenly
flowing on the palate, pervaded by finely-concentrated
acidity and mineral grip, delicately-juicy with citrus zest and
stone dust nuances. Fine tension into the long finish. Purist
with depth. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
93 2009 Dorsheim Goldloch Riesling extra brut
111 months on lees. Subtly matured on the nose. Still recognisably
Riesling with herbal spice and citric tones. Very dry
on the palate, but without aggression, the fine mousse radiates
freshness. Mineral foundation, subtle spicy finish. Extractive
reserves! 12 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Riesling Auslese
Rich, clear yellow. Piquant spiciness on the nose, ripe fruit,
peach, mango, papaya, plus a hint of light blossom honey.
Balanced texture on the palate, fine phenolics, ripe but animating
fruit. Densely-woven structure with length. Potential.
