Vintage by vintage, Lukas Reinhardt<br />

gains more stylistic confidence and authority<br />

– which could easily stand as a<br />

neat summary of the impressions we formed<br />

when tasting his wines. If these were a little<br />

over-ambitious in the past, the young winemaker<br />

by now shows a great combination of ambition<br />

and laissez-faire, knowing when to use<br />

what. Apart from his Rieslings from the 2018<br />

and 2019 vintages, all of which show real site<br />

character; we also like the firm, barrel-matured<br />

Weissburgunder. His 2016 Spätburgunder from<br />

the Ruppertsberger Nussbien site has evolved<br />

really well. Something clearly is happening here!<br />

Riesling trocken<br />

Deep yellow with a concentrated nose showing ripe peach,<br />

hints of exotic fruit, papaya and passion fruit. Powerful and<br />

tightly built with good concentration, generous in extract<br />

and volume, the ripe acidity underlines this character. Will<br />

evolve. 12 Vol.-%. cork, €€<br />

with a sensitive acidity in a compact, clear structure. Elegant<br />

fruit, raspberry and sour cherry, the tannins are polished.<br />

Shows substance and finesse. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€<br />

91 2018 Ruppertsberg Reiterpfad Riesling tr.<br />

Apple and citrus fruit on the nose, ripe stone fruit and spice,<br />

baked apple. Juicy and supple on the palate with subtle<br />

spice. Medium bodied, the volume is well filled out, it has<br />

enough tension to take the finish into elegance.<br />

Weissburgunder trocken<br />

Lean, dry Pinot Blanc that shows refreshing restraint. On the<br />

nose, wood spice with white peach and blossom. On the palate<br />

the use of wood provides firm structure. Still young, a little<br />

bottle age is all that is needed for full integration.<br />

Spätburgunder trocken<br />

Cherry and chocolate coated cherry in Kirsch on the nose -<br />

mocha, fine wood and herbs. Well balanced on the palate<br />

90 2019 Deidesheim Riesling trocken<br />

Apricot and hints of mint on the nose, also tangerine and<br />

nectarine - leafiness. On the palate there’s ripe fruit with a<br />

nice freshness that is light and compactly built; juicy and<br />

with a minerality that shows the terroir of the Mittelhaardt.<br />
