At first sight, it may seem surprising that
there is not a single dry Riesling that
made it onto the podium of the four
highest scoring wines. That, however, can in
no way be construed against them: these
Rieslings simply had to give way to the superior
wines in the stupendous range which Dr.
Matthias Corvers and his son Philipp presented.
They lack neither class nor luminosity.
Apart from the excellent noble sweet Rieslings,
we were also deeply impressed by the
mineral-driven Spätburgunder from the Höllenberg
site. These are wines oenophiles are
talking about!

Spätburgunder trocken
Wild berries, liquorice and spices form a lively aromatic introduction
on the nose. Also mineral hints, stone. Complex
structure on the palate with a lot going on. Well-judged substance,
fine-veined acidity, clearly marked by minerality.
Long-lasting. 13,5 Vol.-%, cork, €€€€
97 2019 Erbach Marcobrunn Riesling TBA
Date, apricot compote on the nose, also a hint of ester. On the
palate, enormously creamy and unctious onset, followed by
an ultra-fine mineral extract. Impressive how all components
are interwoven, homogeneous and almost endlessly long.
Great wine, great future. 6 Vol.-%, glass, €€€€
96 2019 Rauenthal Baiken Riesling TBA
The aroma reveals dates, meat juices, coarsely ground coffee
and dried pears. On the palate very creamy, viscous and
almost oily. Juicy acidity, razor-sharp on the palate, salty
notes, ends oily again and almost with quite a grip at the end.
Still has a long way to go. 6 Vol.-%, glass, €€€€

Almost closed on the nose, citrus, lemon balm, rosemary, but
also dates, a little mineral. Oily on the palate, then very elegantly
integrated acidity, silky sweetness, grippy and substantial on the
finish, herbs, juicy, fine, elegant style. 6 Vol.-%, glass, €€€€

also herbal spectrum, apple and yellow stone fruit.
Straightforward on the palate with taut, mouthwatering
