Burgunderhof Merkel in the village of
Gundersheim is now run by the fourth
generation of the Merkel family. Since
2016, Carmen Merkel has been at the helm
and, together with her father Dietmar, wants
“to combine tradition and modernism”. Their
five hectares of up to 100-year-old vines have
been farmed organically since 2004. Right
next door to the winery they planted a round,
snail-shaped vineyard where vines sprout
beautifully towards the sun. We look forward
to seeing what accents the new generation will
set.

Königstuhl Riesling trocken
Riesling from 55-year-old vines with aromas of citrus fruits
and yellow paprika, also some caramel and floral notes. On
the palate there is striking and invigorating acidity, more citrus
fruits and also red apple. Not a heavyweight.

and generous, strong tannin, slight astringency.

Dark cherry on the nose, spicy and smoky notes, some cherry
yoghurt, a hint of wild raspberry and also mint. On the palate
juicy, sweetly fruity, also notes of sour cherry, firm tannin,
slightly astringent with medium complexity. Expresses grape

Höllenbrand Spätburgunder trocken
Cherry, raspberry, wood spice, toasted aromas, dark notes,
forest floor, berry tones, floral nuances, an ethereal hint. On
the palate liquorice spice, soft fruit, sour cherry juice, big and
powerful. The alcohol is well-integrated, long.

Purple in colour, spice, blackberries, some whey and mint.
Dark, sweet fruit on the palate, blackberry and black cherry

Aromatic nose, typical for the variety and attractively exotic.
Green pepper, papaya, pomegranate and apple with
spicy aromas. Slenderly-built on the palate, balanced and
fresh without being too overblown with more fruity papaya
notes. Harmonious finish, good varietal expression.
