This Weingut in Müllheim’s picturesque
Mühlenstrasse is a stronghold – and connoisseurs
know this – of properly dry
wine, i.e. fully fermented to dryness. Hermann
Dörflinger senior and Hermann Dörflinger junior
both enjoy Baden cuisine with its French influences.
Their Gutedel, aka Chasselas, and Pinot-wines
in white and red go really well with this kind of
food, especially since the cool limestone terroirs
of the Markgräflerland subregion affords the
very best conditions to make exactly that kind of
gastronomic wines. The double bill that was presented
of the vintages 2019 for white and 2018
for red are exemplary. So take your pick!
92 2019 Badenweiler Römerberg
Weissburgunder Spätlese trocken
Clover and dandelion on the nose, herbal spice, citrus notes,
restrained wood. On the palate there is a perfect integration of
suppleness and substance, the mid-palate is pronounced in
fruit (with 0.4 grams of residual sugar!), has fullness, minerality
and is complex. A gastronomic wine. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
On the palate an ultra-fine tannin, a plump body with opulent
fruit, ripe acidity, present tactile minerality. A complex spicy
finish. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
91 2019 Müllheim Reggenhag
Chardonnay Spätlese trocken
92 2019 Müllheim Sonnhalde Grauer
Burgunder Spätlese trocken
Light golden in colour. A lush varietal aroma, baroque, smelling
of pureed sweet chestnut and Turkish delight. On the palate,
powerful, creamy, full-bodied. A pure Baden classic, absolutely
ideal with foods eg. sweetbreads, truffles and other
similar delicacies. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
94 2018 Müllheim Pfaffenstück
Spätburgunder trocken
Elderberry and menthol on the nose, very complex ripe fruit,
yet fresh and not jammy. Also liquorice and discreet new
wood. Supple attack on the palate, creamy base, but also
with a rich load of mellow tannins, fine acidity and a fruity
finish. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
92 2018 »Aus alten Reben« Müllheim
Sonnhalde Spätburgunder trocken
A hint of "wilderness" on the nose, dark berry, elderberry and
ethereal wild blueberry. Distinct but integrated wood notes.
90 2019 Müllheim Reggenhag Gutedel tr.
Intensely grapey in the fragrance, tangerines, peppers and
damp limestone. Supple onset on the palate, then with a
good substantial core, ripe but length-giving acidity, clear
tactile minerality, quite dry but not hard or biting. A very refined
wine. 11,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €
