Gnägy seem to have emerged as the
fourth force to be reckoned with in the village of
Schweigen, behind the famous estates of Friedrich
Becker, Jülg and Bernhart. We already know that
the limestone soils are particularly suited to Pinot
varieties and this is a fact that this winemaking
couple know how to exploit more and more. Their
30 hectares of vineyards are farmed organically
and some of the vines are on Alsace soil, across the
French border. The Weissburgunder shows substance
and limestone-savouriness, the Spätburgunders
show density and elegance. Châpeau!

White flowers on the nose, yellow apple and apricot, as well
as delicate wood spice. Well built on the palate with substance
and volume; ripe acidity blends in, spicy notes, juicy,
chalky mineral tinge. Ripe fruit results in a coherent and multi-layered
overall picture. 13,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
beetroot and freshly crushed juniper berries. Soft on the palate
with beautiful cherry fruit. Dry and with precise acidity,
ripe tannin structure, mineral underpinning.

Ripe pear shows on the nose; toasted walnuts, ripe honeydew
melon, bee honey and smoky hints. Smooth approach to the
palate which shows sweet extract and soft acidity; juicy and
spicy, powerful stature. Pinot Gris that can mature.

Woody spicy notes on the powerful nose; cassis, toasted aromas
and smoke, bay leaf and forest floor. Powerful on the
palate with good concentration and tension, strong and ripe
tannins that are still slightly astringent; somewhat peppery
and spicy, mineral spiciness. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

of the Schweigen vineyards for Pinot varieties. Aromas of
