Albrecht Engel trained with Wittmann,
Gutzler and Christmann and is responsible
for winemaking at his home
estate. “Whether in stainless steel tank, large
barrel or barrique, and when it comes to maturation
our philosophy is to have as little intervention
as possible,” Engel reports. The
eleven hectares are farmed in tune with nature
and are situated in the Nieder-Flörsheim sites
Frauenberg and Goldberg, in the Dalsheim
sites Bürgel and Hubacker as well as in the
Mölsheimer Zellerweg am Schwarzen Herrgott.
Engel knows how to exploit the potential
of these sites. A most successful debut!

Herrgott Riesling trocken
Intense Spätlese fruit, mirabelle, peach and apricot. Powerful
palate, soft and round, full-bodied, more fruity than mineral,
yet fresh with fine acidity, phenolics, medium length
and a return of the yellow-fruited aromas on the finish.

fine acidity, well-balanced with citrus fruit, apricot, mango,
with good structure, length and fresh finish. Good potential.

Riesling trocken
Very deep colour, the nose needs a lot of air, but then shows
herbaceous notes, caraway and anise. Very hard on the palate,
with striking acidity and almost painful tannin, intensely
mineral. An edgy Riesling that needs bottle age.

Riesling trocken
Fragrant and floral on the nose, also notes of citrus fruit.
Fresh and juicy on the palate, at the same time with good
body, silky texture, lively acidity, but also some sweetness
that highlights the fruit. Good potential, but still needs time
to harmonise. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Herrgott Riesling Spätlese
Clear, bright yellow in colour. On the nose shattered rock,
lime, ripe citrus fruit, honey and white currant. On the palate

Deep colour, at first somewhat subdued on the nose, with
subtle aromas of white peach and apricot appearing.
Round and smooth on the palate, almost creamy, strong
phenolics, emphatically dry, mineral tinge and terpene finish.
