Many of Renate and Norbert Bardong’s
Sekts are incredibly delicious and
animating and give the impression of
time travel to the early days of German sparkling
wine. The Riesling “Reserve” from the
1991 vintage takes us almost 30 years back,
no less, and it is quite easy to find yourself
pleasantly fast-forwarded to the present with
its lively nature. This Sekt manufacturer
opened its doors in 1984 and has been true to
its style ever since. The Sekts are lively but also
imbued with a certain texture – which makes
them the perfect accompaniment to food.

Light golden with greenish reflections. Herbaceous aroma,
mint and lemon balm, coriander seed, some peach. On the
palate; delicate, slightly evolved, but nevertheless also
full-bodied, rich in nuance, juicy, very fine mousse, a delicate
ripeness in all components. 13 Vol.-%, cork, €€€
92 2015 Chardonnay brut
93 1991 »Reserve« Riesling brut
Golden in colour. Multi-layered on the nose, slightly tertiary,
freshly cut apple. On the palate concentrated, lively,
long-lasting acidity, very fine, already slightly receding
mousse, spicily unfurled Riesling fruit, mineral background.
Exquisite. 12,5 Vol.-%, cork, €€€€
93 2013 Erbach Honigberg Riesling extra brut
Complex aroma, yellow-fruited Riesling, peach, but also
slightly iodine tones. On the palate there is ripe, plump
late-harvest fruit, peppery terroir notes, delicate sweetness,
fine but also dynamic mousse. A very elaborate sparkling
Riesling. 12,5 Vol.-%, cork, €€
92 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon brut
Very concentrated on the nose with juniper and cassis. On
the palate, powerful tannins, firmly gripping with admirable
astringency, perceptible mineral notes, palate-filling
mousse, supporting acidity. Very unusual sparkling wine - but
quite coherent. 12,5 Vol.-%, cork, €€€
92 2015 Geisenheim Mönchspfad
Weissburgunder brut
Intense berry aroma, redcurrant, in the style of a Pinot
Noir, also a slightly “noble sweet” undertone. Full and rich
on the palate, the firm acid backbone provides structure
and movement, medium-fine mousse, concentrated finish
fruit. Generous Pinot sparkling wine. 12,5 Vol.-%, cork, €€
