The village of Nonnenhorn on Lake Constance
in the State of Bavaria, belongs to
the district of Swabia and forms part of
the subregion Bayerischer Bodensee of the
Württemberg wine region. The Lanz family cuts
through all of this confusion by simply labelling
their produce as “Deutscher Wein” (German
wine) – even if this puts them in the former category
of ‘table wine’. This, of course, is sheer understatement
because what was presented for
tasting – for the first time in this guide – was absolutely
convincing. Fungal-resistant varieties
score here by virtue of a cool vein and skilled
vinification, showing both style and character.

Some wood and floral aromas are hidden behind distinct
grapefruit and rose notes. Powerful body, strength but
also some substance with mineral notes, good density and
almost chewy in its structure. Very good length and homogeneity.

Sauvignon Blanc notes, lots of cassis and elderflower. On the
palate, white currant, hawthorn, vegetal and floral notes dominate.
Nice density and dry-smooth finish. Fresh garden vegetables
will complement this wine well. 12 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Cabertin trocken
Characterised scents of very ripe dark berry fruit and the
green pepper note associated with Cabernet. On the palate,
lush ripeness, but not at all jammy, buffered by a piquant
acidity. Fine tannins, beautiful berry fruit. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€
90 2018 Nonnenhorn Sonnenbichl Pinotin tr.
Purple red in the glass. On the nose restrained fruit of the forest,
undergrowth and juniper. On the palate, forest fruit nuances
continue to dominate with a cool flow. Mediumbodied,
but tight-knit, only a little bit of spiciness, almost
seems like a mountain wine. Convincing performance.

Floral aromas, elderflower, acacia and hawthorn. On the
palate there is density, savoury acidity, fine fruit notes,
pear-like with a light grip. A pleasantly dry and versatile
wine, ideal for al fresco dining. 12 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€
