In medieval times, Esslingen was the centre
of Württemberg’s viticulture and even then
the dry stone walls, painstakingly-built
from sandstone, already characterised the local
vineyards. Today, these steep slopes are cultivated
by the one hundred members of the Weingärtner
Esslingen cooperative. They grow
about twenty different grape varieties and both
the classically Swabian and the French varieties
know how to convince. In this absolutely solid
range the red wines take the top spots, like the
elegant blend “Abt Fulrad” and the full-bodied
Lemberger from the Schenkenberg site. The
uni-frills Riesling turns into our Falstaff-Tip.

Blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot
with an intense nose of blackcurrant and beetroot, spicy
wood and also undergrowth. On the palate there is good balance,
power and ripe acidity which integrate well. Smooth
tannins, elegant!. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€
Soft onset and full-bodied on the palate, ripe acidity and soft
tannins, good volume and medium tension. A Pinot Noir that

Defined scents of woody notes, eucalyptus and plenty of ripe,
dark fruit, blackberry and blackcurrant. Impressive and powerful
on the palate, incisive spice, good extract, voluminous
and bold. Good balance, suited to the fireside and for supper.

Stufe 8 trocken Wein aus Terrassenlage
On the nose, plum, ripe cherry and some mint, dark spices,
pepper and hints of wet leaves. Powerful and voluminous on
the palate with ripe, supple tannins and fine spice. A solid
companion for cold winter evenings and with braised meat

Pinot Noir trocken
Intense aroma of ripe cherry, plum, flowers, herbs and coffee.
89 2019 Esslingen Burg Riesling trocken
Dry Riesling with vivid acidity that has aromas of apple and
peach. Citrus aromas on the palate, lean and consistentlybuilt,
with fine spice and also mineral hints. Clear and juicy
varietal representative, unembellished.
