Röder have worked hard to bring
this longstanding estate in Kleinbottwar
to contemporary standards and have done a
thoroughly good job. The wines presented were
convincing throughout, from the bottom up.
The estate Lemberger already shows everything
that we love about this variety: spiciness, body,
juicy elegance. The “Schwarze Löwe” presents
all this in a much nobler, finer fashion, with even
more depth and yet is equally unpretentious.
The white wines too are of that same standard
and spur our gastronomic imagination. We congratulate
them for the well-deserved fourth star!

Citrus fruit aromas with a Riesling-like fresh breeze. Poised
and silky on the palate, delicate phenolics, lots of texture,
the fine, rather Pinot-like acidity gives the poised structural
support and power. Animating tactile minerality, spicy finish.

smooth, almost oily background. Mild acidity, dark berry

Subtly floral on the nose, spring meadows, a hint of wood and
nuanced berry fruit gaining more herbaceous notes with air
contact. Supple on the palate, strong alcohol, substantial
and fresh, dense and with pronounced fruit. Combines power

A fresh, complex cherry fruit scent with ethereal herbal
notes and the use of wood that only very gently underlines
the fruit. Generous on the palate, a rich dose of fine-grained
tannins, distinct tactile minerality on the mid-palate and
seamlessly integrated acidity. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Blackcurrant, sour cherry, beetroot juice, blackberry and
slightly smoky wood notes, pepper and cedar too. Great

Peppery, almond, apple, wild cherry, cherry stone and a
hint of juniper. On the palate very complete, medium
weight, fine but also grippy tannins and juicy fruit. A very
elegant red that gives a high-quality expression to the varietal
