Hectares: 26 ha
This estate – which according to the information
they provide is the eighth-oldest in
the world – was founded in 1335 and has
been owned by seven generations of the same
family since 1811. The bottles with the narrow
neck label stand for lip-smackingly dry, incredibly
well-maturing Ruwer Riesling. In recent years we
did not hear that much from this super-privileged
monopole site with its iron-rich slate soils. However,
in the spring of 2020, the thunderbolt struck:
with Richard Grosche as managing director and
Mathieu Kauffmann as technical director (the
former team from von Buhl) is now at the helm.
We cannot wait to see what they will achieve.

Riesling GG
Some panforte on the nose, with noticeable hints of botrytis
and peach. On the palate there is a silky approach, concentrated
fruit and quite animating sweetness. Has a lot of
everything, but also seems a bit contrived. Little minerality.

Riesling Spätlese
Spicy slate nuances on the nose with balsamic and slight citrus
undertones. On the palate there is a lightweight impression,
leaner and more elegant than a Kabinett with a fine and
homogeneous aftertaste. A very delicate structure that nevertheless

On the nose aromas of brown sugar, candied lemon and orange
peel, delicate floral notes, violet pastilles, plus an almost
medicinal undertone. On the palate, given the vintage,
comparatively soft acidity, silky sweetness, good to medium-weight
extract. 10,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Riesling Auslese
Fresh, spicy nose of hay, white currants, budding white lilacs
and a whiff of sea breeze. Also aromatic on the palate, fresh
hay and apricots, brisk acidity complements the juicy sweetness.
Incredibly long finish, great balance.

Intensely mineral on the nose with mineral depth on the
palate too. In addition a poised, silky structure with a touch
of phenolics, ripe acidity, good homogeneity and good
length. A full-bodied Ortswein with very good potential.
