Things are happening in Baden-Baden: the
town handed over some six hectares of its
municipal vineyards in the Silberbuckel,
Eckberg and Schafberg to the care of Weingut
Knapp. The fruit of the labours that have already
gone into this project demanding both renewal and
preservation – one hectare of old Riesling vines
could painstakingly be rehabilitated – already
bring great joy. The Riesling from the Mauerberg
site is a bundle of joy that carries Baden’s conviviality
in its heart. With grape varieties like Merlot,
Sauvignon Blanc and Grüner Veltliner, both Heinz
Knapp and his cellar master Urban Jung emphasise
the fact that the future has already begun.
90 2018 Neuweier Mauerberg Riesling trocken
A spicy, already-fully-developed Riesling aroma, lemon balm,
lime, peach and apricot. On the palate there is a mild, round
impression, present pronounced fruitiness, firm acidity,
strong body, discreet mineral tones, yellow fruit on the finish.
You can taste the south. 13 Vol.-%. screwcap

89 2018 Veltliner trocken
Powerful and spicy nose with apple, citrus fruit and pear, also
some white pepper. Also on the palate good intensity, powerful,
with texture, juice and spice, shows an opulent side, but
keeps balance and structure. Some passion fruit, good
length, consistent. 13,5 Vol.-%. screwcap
89 2018 Pinot Blanc trocken
Flowers in the powerful nose, some lavender, apples and
Reine Claude plums. On the palate there is a lot of spice and
good substance, ripe fruit and ripe acidity reinforce the generous
appearance, light phenolic astringency provides another
facet, juicy finish. 13,5 Vol.-%. screwcap
89 2018 Merlot trocken
Spicy and herbal nose with ripe dark fruit, blackcurrant and
black cherry, allspice and ground ginger. On the palate grippy
with present acidity and prominent tannins, good substance
and the generosity of 2018. Mocha and elderberry nuances on
the finish. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork
90 2018 Sauvignon Blanc trocken
Passion fruit and green pepper on the powerful nose,
flanked by blackcurrant. Powerful construction on the palate
with good extract, pronounced spice and a confident
acidity, the ripe fruit supports the full-bodied impression,
good length. 13 Vol.-%, screwcap
