Friedrich Wilhelm Becker takes this famous
estate in Schweigen from success
to success: he exploits the properties of
the local limestone – on either side of the
French-German border – for Pinots which
turn out to have class, depth and ageing potential,
no matter in what colour they come:
white, red or, in the case of the Grauburgunder,
copper-coloured. These are by no means wines
for easy glugging. Yet, those who have little patience
to store, and know how to pair the
wines with some home-cooking, will be richly
rewarded!

“Gris” in colour with red-golden reflections. A radiant and
complex berry fruit, very typical of Pinot. On the palate there
is crunchy acidity and dense, fine yet simultaneously tense
phenolics. Mouth watering, full-bodied and spicy. Plump extract.

Spätburgunder GG
Initially herbs like lovage on the concentrated nose, then
black tea, miso, tar and dark fruit. Concentrated and compacted
on the palate, almost painful intensity on the
mid-palate. Strong minerality, gripping tannin, great potential!

Spätburgunder GG
Cherry and rosehip meet in a multi-layered bouquet of herbs,
smoke and limestone notes. On the palate the wine is juicy
and supple, becoming more dense as it builds up tension. The
tannins are gripping and still astringent - youthful.

Closed nose – herbs, toasted aromas and smoke in equal
quantity. The palate shows juicy, vivid acidity. Emphatically
dry, purist ,with powerful astringent tannins, good substance.
Still seems tight with excellent potential to mature.
