Weingut Meier Schmidt, which was
not created until March 2019 by
the merging of the estates Meier in
Ulsenheim and Schmidt in Bullenheim, is going
full throttle: we tasted through their range and
could not find fault, each wine shows character
and profile. The textured and mineral Silvaner
Grosses Gewächs from the Escherndorfer
Lump site stands like an illustration of their development.
When it comes to noble sweet
wines, it is the exquisitely balanced Rieslaner-Beerenauslese
that shines. The winery also is
a member estate of the Ethos Association,
promulgating winemaking with attitude.

Lump Silvaner trocken
Deep yellow in the glass, yellow fruit and vegetal notes, hints of
pea shoots, fresh bay leaves and fine spice. On the palate taut
with traction, ripe apricot, orange, passion fruit enhancing the
juicy acidity. Powerful and firmly structured with a mineral base.

Ripe stone fruit on the nose, peach, some mango and papaya,
also a slight hint of petrol. Well and coherently built on the
palate, good substance, density and charm, fine smoke,
spice, minerality and ripe acidity. Long finish and with potential

Steinbach Chardonnay trocken
Powerful nose with strong woody aromas, supported by vanilla,
ripe melon and pear and also a dash of incense. Smooth and soft
onset to the palate with added spice and also sharpness. Power
and alcohol are well integrated; has international flair not necessarily
Franconian, good potential. 14 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€€

Rieslaner Beerenauslese
Rich, clear yellow hue. Piquant spiciness and ripe citrus fruit
on the nose, in addition to nuances of dried stone fruit. On the
palate blossom honey, candied orange and lemon, nutty, fine
acidity and enormous pull, yet balanced. Long, spicy finish
with lots of potential. 6,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€€
