stylistic change is afoot at Weingut
Dahms, run by third-generation winemakers
Jürgen and Alexander Dahms
in the Schweinfurt suburb of Sennfeld: some of
the white wines are fermented on skins and
matured in Halbstück barrels made from local
Spessart oak. The wines are not as smoothed
over as in the past but show profile and character,
like their Silvaner “Fass No. 1”, or the
well-integrated Weissburgunder “Fass No. 2”.
Likewise, the impressive and elegant Spätburgunder
presents itself at a high level. The
“Domina”, meanwhile, brings plenty of joy
with its direct and juicy nature. More please!

Nutty notes on the nose, apricot tart, toasted aromas, juniper
berry and a slight ethereal tone. Firm in its structure,
tightly built and also with good density from the wood ageing.
The acidity is ripe and glides across the palate in a refined
fashion with hints of pleasant saltiness.

the fine acidity is well integrated. More Pinot Noir than Spätburgunder.

Bright flowers on the nose, lily of the valley, apple, malt and
smoky notes. Clearly defined and a firm structure due to the
wood ageing, fine fruit and some sweet extract, well woven in
its elements, well integrated acidity. Consistent and simultaneously
elegant. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Spätlese trocken
Apple on the nose, apple peel, yeast, spice, herbs, some hops,
malt and a hint of liquorice. On the palate there is juice, texture
and pronounced fruitiness, powerful in structure and
substance, also density, nice spice, consistent and with
length. Good potential. 13 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
91 2018 Spätburgunder trocken
Cherry, blackcurrant and bay leaf merge with the fine woody
spice. This is juicy and shows good tension on the palate, density
and texture, the tannins are concise and of good quality,

Dark colour, elderberry in the fruity nose, blackberry and
also dark chocolate. Juicy and with clear fruit on the palate,
elderberry notes again, also spicy and peppery notes,
lean, firm construction, medium complexity and good traction.
