The Schamari-Mühle estate sits in
Johannisberg, just underneath the Castle.
This picturesque, century-old mill is
surrounded by the meadows and pastures of
the Elsterbach valley. It was taken over in 1950
by Swede Erik Andersson but now the estate
with its five hectares of vines in Johannisberg,
Geisenheim, Assmannshausen and Lorch belongs
to Dr. Peter Reck. We tasted exquisite
Spätburgunders, the mineral-pervaded “La
Déesse” - and the cheeky, astoundingly fresh
“Scha-to-Marie” from the 2013 vintage. The
white wines also turned out well and the sparkling
wine is a true pleasure!

Kläuserweg Riesling trocken
Spicy, multi-layered bouquet with aromas of citrus fruits,
apricot and flowers, also smoke. On the palate there is good
density, firm structure, fine spice and mineral undertone.
Soft and grippy, with a layer of powdery phenolics. Potential.

on the nose. Fresh and deft on the palate, although it has a
lot of power. Firm tannin, good concentration, but also a lot
of Pinot delicacy, consistent, dry and precise in expression.

Chardonnay trocken
Fine smoke on the nose, melon and some quince, walnut and
herbs. Powerful on the palate with substance and density,
ripe acidity, emphatically dry, yet with texture and juice.
Clearly structured and of medium complexity, ends with fine

Spätburgunder trocken
Smoke, blackcurrant, black tea, curry leaves, seaweed, tar,
ethereal tone. Good concentration and density on the palate,
the tannins are dense and fine, smooth foundation, pronounced
minerality, shows power, provenance and finesse.

Parsley notes, cassis, sour cherry, smoky bacon and juniper
93 2018 Assmannshausen Höllenberg brut
Smoky nose with raspberry and wild strawberry. Juicy and
also complex sparkling wine; its fine sweetness sits well
and complements the slate notes of the Höllenberg. Brilliant
fruit in a thoroughly complex structure, sophisticated
and full of style. 13 Vol.-%, cork, €€
