– they are too well-known for that now.
But they still constitute a real recommendation.
Yet again this pair of brothers manages the highwire
act – with a kind of somnambulist
sure-footedness – between power, density and
elegance. Apart from the single-site Rieslings
from Probstey and Hölle, we were really smitten
this year by the Chardonnay Reserve that unites
woody spice with aromatic potential. Likewise
the Spätburgunder from the Probstey site whose
fine tannins are a suitable foundation for the
fullness of fruit so typical for this vintage.

Golden yellow. The nose shows a vanilla note, aromas of ripe
yellow apple, pineapple and violets. On the palate, the fine
acidity balances the flavours. The very good length is accompanied
by light minerality and saltiness. Notes of honeydew
melon and Mirabelle plum on the very appealing finish.

Medium lemon yellow. Complex scent of violets, apricot,
peach and grass. Medium-bodied palate with very lively acidity
and flavours of wet stone, lemon zest and lime with a long
finish. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Spätburgunder trocken
Medium purple. Ripe cherry, raspberry and pretzel on the
nose. Discreet use of wood. On the palate, the expressive
acidity balances the medium body, fine tannin as well as flavours
of juniper and wild berries lead into a long finish.

93 2019 Saulheim Hölle Riesling Auslese
Rich, clear yellow. On the nose ripe citrus fruit, papaya and
some blossom honey. On the layered complex palate there is
spiciness, texture and tension. Highly appealing citrus fruit,
but also ripe pear and dried apricot. Great structure and
length, potential. 7,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
92 2019 Saulheim Probstey Riesling trocken
Medium lemon yellow. A complex nose and palate of ripe
stone fruit, young lemon and acacia. Further flavours of
herbal sage well-balanced with the medium body, very
lively acidity and a very well-integrated mineral finish.
