RADEBEUL | GOLDENER WAGEN
The Radebeuler Goldener Wagen is the
eastern most of the three single sites within
the collective site Lössnitz. Its name is
derived from the state vineyard Goldener
Wagen just north of Hoflössnitz. It is
estimated that this 11ha/27 acre site was
created as early as the 13th century. The
terraced site has been known under its
current name since the 18th century. It rises
from 170-240m/557-787ft and the vines
thrive in soils of volcanic origin and
weathered syenite.

GOSECK | DECHANTENBERG
This, presumably, oldest still-cultivated
vineyard on the rivers Saale and Unstrut
has been planted since the year 1080 when
Benedictine monks cultivated vines on this
spot close to the Saale. Since 1903 the
vineyard has been owned by the state and
today is a monopole of the federal state
Sachsen-Anhalt who own Landesweingut
Kloster Pforta. This 3.5ha/8.6 acre terraced
site rises from 110-160m/360-524ft and
faces south and southeast. Its walls of
sandstone give clues to the subsoil of
weathered Triassic red sandstone, lending
playfulness and mineral elegance to the
wines.
