Wine Guide
Germany
You are holding an incredibly diverse and important German Wine Guide in your
hands! Over the space of ten weeks, our professional and dedicated tasting
panel of journalists, sommeliers and Master of Wine Anne Krebiehl tasted
roughly 4,500 wines from 550 different estates across all German regions. The results
are outstanding. 125 wines received a score of 95 points or more – that is
unprecedented. Clearly, the gigantic dynamism of German viticulture and winemaking
inspired the enthusiasm of our tasting panel. German wine today comes in a truly
incredible stylistic spectrum! Top scores exist in both the ‘conventional’ and the
‘experimental’ categories. What is more, the whites from 2019 and the reds from 2018
form a thrilling duo of vintages: where the 2019s are all about chiselled elegance, the
2018s deliver body and glorious fruit. One is downright ideal for the whites while the
other imbues the reds with so much potential for pleasure.
Which leads us right to our central message: do not miss out on these wines! Even if
one or two of the top wines are sold out at the estate, we are sure that specialist and
independent merchants will be able to help. Even the more humble, everyday wines
have never been so good.
We hope you enjoy reading this guide – and drinking the wines, of course!
