The wines Peter Wagner makes in this
family estate in Oberrotweil from just
four hectares of vines are decidedly slender
and elegant. They do not have an ounce of
superfluous fat but a clear expression of terroir,
as well as elegance and freshness. Wagner farms
biodynamically and focuses on Spätburgunder
and Chardonnay, plus Grauburgunder and a
little Müller-Thurgau which in his hands turns
out wonderfully fresh. Wagner’s Grauburgunder
from the Henkenberg site offers magnificent
tension and depth, just as the finely-woven
Spätburgunder from the same site. An estate
that should definitely be on your radar.

Clear, medium yellow. On the nose brioche, quince, smoke,
some jasmine, apple peel. On the palate nice texture, flowing
acidity, grippy fine phenolics, apple, quince, almond nuances
underlaid with minerality, lots of tension, nice length. Great
with food, potential. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Clear, medium yellow. On the nose ripe light fruits, some
smoke, almond, hot stone, herbal spice. On the palate a fine
texture, grip, fine phenolics, lemon balm, nuts, ripe citrus
fruit. An elegant Schlossberg with depth, calm and long.

Rich cherry red, clear. On the nose fine red fruits, smoke,
cherry, spice, crushed rock, elderberry. Depth. On the palate
much spice and tension, fine tannins, differentiated, red
fruits, balancing acidity, good structure, long, potential.

Clear, rich red. On the nose smoke, wood barrel clearly noticeable,
sloe, cherry, blackberry, some tobacco and dark
chocolate. On the palate, grippy tannins, balanced acidity,
power, dark fruit, cherry, smoke, tension, still needs time.
