Winamaking couple Antje and Dirk
Emmich farms 22 hectares of
vines in Bermersheim in the Wonnegau.
Son Philipp has now also completed his
winemaker training and is beginning to make
his mark on the estate. The entry level wines
already show fruit expression and good balance.
The two single-site Rieslings from the
Gundersheimer Höllenbrand and the Albiger
Hundskopf combine complexity and elegance
in poised, natural and classic fashion. We can
highly recommend these wines – which also
always spur our gastronomic imagination!
91 2018 Gundersheim Höllenbrand Riesling tr.
Ripe, intense aroma of ripe peach, a hint of petrol and lots of
spice. On the palate lean and tightly-built, with good density
and extract, the sweetness is well-integrated, the acidity noticeable
and straightforward. Finishes with spice and minerality,
good ageing potential. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€

91 2018 Albig Hundskopf Riesling trocken
Ripe aromas on the nose of peach, apple, smoke, roasted
chestnut, floral notes and a hint of petrol. Taut and athletically-built
on the palate, with a bright and ripe acidity, salty
grip and also phenolic notes, lemon, mineral flair. Potential.

89 2019 Bermersheim Silvaner trocken
Clean and varietal nose of apple, pear and meadow herbs,
also nutty aromas. Lots of juice and also texture on the palate,
the fine sweetness is as well-integrated as the ripe
acidity. Very clear expression, earthy in character.

89 2019 Westhofen Weissburgunder trocken
White flowers and white peach on the nose, also peach stone,
passion fruit and tangerine zest. Fruity and juicy on the palate,
full-bodied and with fine sweetness, yet slender and
compactly-built. Elegant with refined acidity and nice spiciness,
clear profile. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €
89 2019 Dalsheim Riesling trocken
Fine and unpretentious Riesling nose with peach and apricot,
spice and floral nuances. Creamy and juicy on the palate,
very nice fruit expression, the bright acidity is coupled
with fine sweetness. Charming and, at the same time fresh
and vivid, very finely-crafted. 12,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €
