The wines of Thomas Simon who runs
Weingut Kassner-Simon, are dependable.
They are not loud wines clamouring
for effect but artisanally made wines like
Spätlesen of Chardonnay and Weissburgunder
which you can just about imagine gracing
any well-laid table. The dry Rieslings show
real substance and savouriness, the red wine
blend “Kostbar” of Merlot, Cabernet Franc
and Cabernet Sauvignon unites power and elegance.
His Rieslaner Beerenauslese from the
Oschelskopf site shows silky sweetness, density
and structure. Well done!

Ripe fruit on the nose, mango and apricot, also pineapple and
some wood spice. Strong and firm in structure, juicy and
spicy, shows the warm year, fine wood tannins and a mineral
tinge. Lush and with good tension. Good length, has potential.

spice, sunflower. Dry and spicy on the palate, slender structure,
balanced acidity, ripe apricot and lime zest, juicy and

“Precious” is this cuvée of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet
Sauvignon, with strong scents of blackberry, black cherry
and blackcurrant, also ample spice. On the palate, it shows
power, substance, a lot of spice and also elegance with ripe
tannins. Good length. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Overt botrytis; sultana, Turkish delight, dates, but also floral
notes, jasmine. Viscous across the palate, but not exuberant.
Silky sweetness, firm acid backbone and good substance. A

Ripe citrus fruit, flowers, candied orange peel and apple. Full
bodied and with a lot of spice on the palate. Powerful structure,
good substance, ripe acidity, juice and texture, good roundness.
