Hanspeter Ziereisen is one of the most<br />

original characters of German viticulture<br />

– this is no longer a secret. But<br />

there is far more than originality: Ziereisen’s<br />

style in vineyard and cellar shows traces of<br />

pure genius. He can actually afford to pack a<br />

Grauburgunder with extract to bursting point<br />

– even with colour! – without even a hint of<br />

plumpness. He manages to make his Gutedel<br />

resemble a spicy, concentrated Meursault.<br />

And apart from all these virtuosic feats he still<br />

has a fine talent for very affordable and wonderfully<br />

down-to-earth entry-level wines.<br />

Salmon pink with orange reflections. Scents of wood notes,<br />

green walnut, apple peel tea, limestone and also citrus notes<br />

followed by Pinot berries. Quite a mouthful, but made from<br />

the finest elements, immensely young, deep and complex,<br />

concentrated with dense acidity. Enormous potential!<br />

Scent of limestone- savouriness, apple and some wood nuances.<br />

Highly condensed on the palate, very mineral and phenolic, firm<br />

acidity, immensely young with depth and substance for 20 years<br />

of maturity. Enormous extract and that with the utmost finesse.<br />

In the finish almost only tactile minerality. 12 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€<br />

A still youthful cherry fruit aroma followed by some wood, coconut,<br />

cinnamon notes, but also peppery, tree resin, candied orange<br />

peel, herbal spice and a dash of ink. On the palate there is a lively<br />

acidic nerve, wide-ranging, fine-grained tannins in medium-high<br />

quantity. A dense, long, chalky finish. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€<br />

Plum core, toasty, tarry notes, blackberry, elderberry pulp,<br />

very fresh and some wood. Dense on the palate, taut, astringent<br />

tannins and a vital acidity accompanied by peppery<br />

notes, disciplined alcohol, taut and exciting. Future!<br />
