Weingut Karlheinz Keller, which is
now run by Markus Keller, farms
around twenty hectares of vines
and continues to deliver consistent quality at
astonishingly fair prices. Since Markus Keller’s
wife hails from Alto Adige, he is dedicated to
Lagrein, a powerful and somewhat rustic
grape variety from the southern side of the
Alps. The results are impressive: this barrique-matured
red is spicy, smooth and really
textured – a most successful experiment within
a thoroughly-balanced and convincing
range of wines.
92 2019 Pfeddersheim St. Georgenberg
Sauvignon Blanc trocken
Wonderfully fruity and fresh on the nose with quince and
candied red apple. Then dense on the palate with good substance.
Energetic without dominating the fruit. Polished.
Balanced. Bravo! 13 Vol.-%. cork, €
90 2019 Roter Riesling trocken
Discreet aromas on the nose with red fruits like redcurrant.
The use of wood is noticeable but well-integrated. Good substance
and power of the wine with pleasant viscosity. Harmonious.
13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
92 2017 »Cuvée Gabriel« trocken ME/SY/CS
Blackberry, elderberry, cherry, cinnamon and clove with a
slightly herbaceous hint. Lots of fine tannin, concentrated
with a smooth backdrop, vivid fruit, seamlessly-integrated,
ripe acidity. Juicy and fruit-driven with a sweet finish, elegant
wine. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
91 2018 Lagrein trocken
Strong notes of new wood and herbaceous aromas of thyme,
menthol and camphor. Supple, almost viscous on the palate,
grainy tannin with good ripeness. Cherry-like fruit on the palate,
strong alcohol, slightly pronounced fruitiness, sturdy
finish. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
90 2019 Grauer Burgunder trocken
89 2019 Weissburgunder trocken
89 2019 Sauvignon Blanc trocken
89 2019 Riesling trocken
91 2018 Frauenberg Spätburgunder
Barrique trocken
89 2018 Pfeddersheimer Hochberg
Spätburgunder trocken
89 2017 Pfeddersheim St. Georgenberg
Merlot trocken
91 Pinot Noir Brut
Salmon pink. Yeasty on the nose and aromatic Pinot berries.
On the palate there is good balance between fresh,
racy acidity and it's fine, also dynamic, mousse. A Sekt with
clear aromatics and clear dry finish. Nice aperitif.
12,5 Vol.-%, DIAM, €€
