As we know, Flörsheim-Dalsheim, is a
viticultural hotspot in Rheinhessen.
Jochen Becker is part of what makes
this commune so pulsating – his current range
of wines calls for several exclamation points.
His Riesling from the Brummelochsenboden
site is wonderfully juicy and tight, a wine that
will give pleasure for years – even if each and
every bottle will be emptied quickly. His trio of
red wines is superb: but our hearts were captured
by the Sankt Laurent which, in this estate’s
iteration of the 2018 vintage, unites texture
and fruit into a wonderful harmony.
92 2019 »Vom Brummelochsenboden«
Dalsheim Sauloch Riesling trocken
Some wood and fresh herbal tones of lemon balm, citrus,
notes of yeast. Full-bodied and compact on the palate,
silky-textured, juicy acidity, good weight but no alcoholic excess.
A very rich wine with real potential and striking minerality.
12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €
91 2018 »Die Wildsau« Dalsheim Sauloch
Frühburgunder trocken
Smoky notes, roasted coffee, cranberry, nougat and Amarena
cherry. The vintage was certainly very ripe. Slightly viscous
on the opening, a hint of sweetness, fine-grained tannin
in medium-high quantity, ripe acidity, good density in all
components. Attractive berry-like finish. 14,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
89 2019 »Arras« Rosé trocken
90 2019 »MDCXXV« Dalsheim Bürgel
Chardonnay trocken
Strong use of wood, coconut, restrained varietal aromas, sesame
and polenta. Supple palate, discreet texture, fine,
long-lasting acidity, a hint of wood tannin, juicy, medium-weight
finish. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
92 2017 »MDCXXV« Dalsheim Bürgel
Spätburgunder trocken
Smoky new wood, sweet cherry, rosehip. A very slight malty
undertone. Black tea and herbs. On the palate there is mellow,
fine-grained (but dense) tannin, with a creamy base and
a vein of acidity well-suited to the body. Intense, clear fruit on
the finish. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€
92 2018 »MDCXXV« Dalsheim Bürgel
St. Laurent
Still closed on the nose, cranberry, blackberry and black
pepper, a “cool” herbal note overall. On the palate silky,
very finely-textured, mild acidity, shows juiciness and very
intense fruit leading to the long finish. 14 Vol.-%, cork, €€
