With much gusto, the young couple -
Kathrin Otte and Christoph Knäbel
– have turned over a new leaf at
the parental estate – which does justice to the
top sites in their portfolio. Their Erste Lagen
are slender, no-frills, honest and firm throughout
– without affectation but all the more convincing
for it – as well as typical for the vintage.
The step up to the Grosse Lagen is also
clear. These wines, despite being a year older,
still come with promising and reductive notes
of spontaneous fermentation, they show character,
depth and longevity. Keep it coming!

Dried hay flowers mingle with a pleasant, gentle creaminess
on the nose, giving the impression of something both muted
and ethereal. The palate appears buffered by yeast, although
pithy lemon zest lurks deliciously within the fine freshness.
13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
air then allows pithy lemon to come through. Clear, pure,
clean on the palate. A very clear line of freshness runs
through the wine which absolutely emphasises the slender,
the pithy, the elegant. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Wild yeasty notes mingle with tropical mango and passion
fruit overtones and really make you want more. On the palate,
there is even more life; texture, additional spontaneous
yeast notes, bitter zest and pear skin and a wonderful, ripe
juiciness. Needs time but is great. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Pear skin, dried lemon zest and wet stony freshness are concentrated
on the nose. The palate is softer and riper but then
so was the vintage. A wonderfully grippy texture provides
structure and the otherwise restrained freshness wins
through on the finish. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Ripe mandarine and orange peel are gentle on the nose. More

Ripe stone fruit, pear skin, and hay flower aromas characterise
the nose. The palate is very ripe, characterised by
round stone fruit and pear skin, a little apple core bitterness
offers an attractive counterpoint. The finish could be
