When Rieslings of so much substance,
minerality and precision are sold at
prices sometimes well below the
ten-Euro-mark, you can bet your bottom dollar
that the winemaker is driven by an extra bit
of passion and lifeblood. How else could you
explain the fact that these wines from the
northernmost part of the Mittelrhein region,
already in the federal state of Nordrhein-Westfalen,
are so ripe and rich and sometimes almost
have a taste of the south about them?
The work in the steep slopes is a grind – and
together with his family, Felix Pieper cultivates
almost nine hectares of them. Chapeau!

Grated apple with hints of balsamic and spontaneous fermentation
aromas. Salty on the palate, good density, subtle
phenolics, taut acidity. A zesty Riesling with considerable extract
and depth, with striking tactile minerality and excellent

Balsamic, chalky tones alongside zesty varietal fruit, red
gooseberry, kiwi, black pepper and herbal aromas. Sweet fruit,
lively but cultivated acidity, a full-bodied and, at the same

Tangerine and freshly-grated lemon peel, blood orange and
lemon balm notes. Smooth onset, very round and poised by
sweet fruit, very good density, seamlessly-integrated acidity.
A Riesling as a bundle of joy, long and complex on the finish.

Riesling Spätlese
A slight hint of petrol, apricot and notes of yoghurt. Quite
corpulent on the palate, silky phenolics, striking sweetness
and an acidity that slowly concentrates on the palate. Powerful
and compact, good potential for complexity, needs

A nuanced, unobtrusive spiciness followed by rose, anise,
but also Riesling fruit – very clear in all components.
Finely-balanced on the palate: Riesling acidity and

intense, but also minerally well-defined.
