Whenever you taste wines made by
Joachim Wegner, a surprise is always
in store. This winemaker always
has a few mature vintages in reserve, like
the powerful but elegant Pinot Noirs from the
Schenkenböhl site from 2013 and 2014, or the
fruity and complex Syrah from the 2015 vintage.
Wegner manages – with maturation in
wood – to imbue his wines with long life and
ageing potential. However, Wegner also cuts a
great figure in the 2019 vintage with a successful,
layered range of wines.

Golden yellow in the glass. Notes of fermentation, herbs,
wild honey, sage, malt and toasted aromas on the nose. Unconventional
on the palate, powerful stature with a ripe,
straightforward acidity. Dry, wood tannins and phenolics add
to the complexity. Good potential. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Deep yellow in the glass. Lots of spice on the full nose, also wood
aromas, smoke, ripe apricot and a touch of lychee. On the palate
there is a lot of spice, lean construction, tightly filled but with good
extract - avoids opulence, shows concentration. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Brick red reflections. Cassis, ripe cherries and spice on the
nose, wood notes. On the palate, a ripe and playful acidity that
conveys elegance. Powerful construction, the tannins are ripe
and fine-grained, vivid, good length. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Cabernet Blanc Eiswein
Cooked green peppers, green gooseberry, quite prominent on
the nose. On the palate there is tangy acidity, medium-high
extract, reasonably vivid alcohol and finely integrated wood
spice. An unusual Eiswein but very successful especially in
palate structure. 10,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
