Mathias Meimberg runs two winemaking
projects in Franken: Weinhaus
Boessneck in Iphofen and the
2013-founded Weinkellerei Meimberg. The
young winemaker farms three hectares altogether,
stretching from Escherndorf via
Wiesenbronn all the way to Iphofen. The
wines do sometimes show a hearty character
and are thus perfect for more rustic dishes.
Since Meimberg hails from a Westphalian
family, he decided to live in Emsdetten in the
Münsterland – this is where he runs a wine bistro
called “Das Meimbergs” where his wines
are served.

Smoky nose with notes of chestnut, walnut, roasted coffee
beans, pear and quince. Powerfully structured and demanding
on the palate, suitably dry, no residual sweetness, firm in
structure, good use of wood, ripe acidity and salty notes. Still
slightly astringent. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Pear, pear skin and quince on the nose, herb garden notes
and spice, ethereal. Juicy on the palate with soft acidity,
some sweetness, also a mineral tone; good substance, spice,
also rustic notes. Shows provenance in a tangible way, ideal
with food. 13,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Rich, clear yellow in appearance. On the nose sultana, nutmeg,
apricot jam, candied orange. Dense on the palate, lush
sweetness, full body and texture, rather restrained acidity.
Apricot notes reappear with dried fruit. Well structured, medium
length. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€€

Rich yellow appearance. On the nose concentrated citrus fruit,
lemon balm, mint, hot stone, some smoke. Tight acidity on the
palate, lots of citrus fruit, some smoke, spice, demanding on the
palate. Well-structured and unique. 14,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Intense aroma of ripe apple and meadow herbs, also mirabelle
plums, floral notes and spices. Self-confident, powerfully
built Müller-Thurgau that is not ungenerous: juicy,
with lots of spice and fine sweetness; has enough substance
to accompany hearty Franconian dishes.
