In Heuchelheim-Klingen on the Südliche
Weinstrasse, Niko Leonhard und Annette
Rinck farm thirteen hectares of vines in
sites like the Klingener Herrenpfad and
Mörzheimer Pfaffenberg. Their focus is on
Riesling, Silvaner and the Pinot varieties.
“When making wine, we hold strongly on to
tradition, including skin contact, maturation
in large, used barrels and, depending on vintage,
spontaneous fermentation.” the family
reports. They presented a balanced and convincing
range of wines which had a partially
skin-fermented Silvaner as its top wine. A remarkable
debut!

Red apple, pear, hop blossom and smoke, fresh bay leaf.
Juicy on the palate with tart apple fruit, phenolic, dry, with a
little wood tannin and spritz. Not a mainstream Silvaner, has
character and edges. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €

Ripe yellow fruits (peach and plum) are joined by toasty aromas,
smoke and spices. Compact and firmly built, the acidity
is vivid and mobile, the fine fruit sweetness adds pleasure;
juicy, again spicy notes. Will evolve further, still young.

Gewürztraminer and Pinot Gris make up L'Ambre which
shows the aromatics of a natural wine: dried apricot, wormwood,
malt and rose petals. Slender on the palate with ripe,
vivid acidity, phenolic and aromatic, medium extract. Will
evolve. 12 Vol.-%. cork, €€

Grauer Burgunder trocken
Wood spice on the nose, quince and ripe pear with some vanilla.
On the palate there is a powerful structure and broad
volume, medium extract, juicy and spicy, pear is the leading
fruit. Mild and creamy acidity, slightly astringent tannins.

Ripe gooseberry, apricot and redcurrants, smoky, spicy
hints. Slenderly built on the palate with a straightforward
and vivid acidity. Emphatically dry and somewhat purist, a
fine phenolic layer, good grip. An unusual interpretation of
Scheurebe. 12 Vol.-%, cork, €€
