When it comes to its top range of
wines, the cooperative that is Winzerverein
Deidesheim can easily
compete with well-known Pfalz estates. Their
2018 Riesling “Edition” from the Deidesheimer
Grainhübel site won lots of admiration
around our tasting circle. Its counterpart from
the Deidesheimer Kieselberg also received
much praise. The other wines are also of a remarkable
standard. It really is impressive
what cellar master Bruno Klüpfel and his team
can deliver – after all, they have an annual output
of around two million bottles.

Riesling trocken
Candied lemon peel, flint on the nose, plump and poised on
the palate. Generous but mild phenolics create a very velvety
yet powerful texture; a lot of minerality, a lot of substance,
texture and vivacious freshness. A generous, very complete

Riesling trocken
Grated lemon peel, very fresh and clear, slightly smoky
notes. The palate has a supple attack; lots of juiciness, round
and creamy, silky phenolics, powerful, homogeneous, long.
Ripe but supporting acidity. A single-site Riesling with expression
and real nobility. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Im Holzfass gereift trocken
Sweet popcorn, raspberry, citrus, buttery undertones on the
nose, also yeasty and herbaceous notes. Creamy on the palate,
strong body, discreet wood spice, fine, long lasting vein
of acidity. A gastronomic Chardonnay with successful use of
wood. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Riesling Auslese
Distinctive floral and also mineral nose; graphite, honey,
fresh hay, orange peel and a light petrol note. On the palate a
fine tart sweetness with crunchy and dynamic acidity. Citrus-fresh
and a slightly astringent finish.

Closed on the nose, citrus-fruity, a little grapefruit. Compact
on the palate, vivid with some suppleness and a layer
of delicate phenolics, but above all with a lively acidity and
a hint of sweetness. Substantial and balanced, fresh and
