Thomas and Sabine Schätzel are the fifth
generation of their family to run the
Kapellenhof in its idyllic setting in the
village of Selzen – and the estate can look back
across a 600-year history. From his eighteen
hectares of vines, most of them on mineral -
rich soils of calcareous marl, Thomas Schätzel
makes varietally-typical wines year on year.
This year it is the multi-layered and dense
“Selection” Riesling that is at the top of the
range – but the other wines know how to
convince, too. All of them absolutely work at
the table. Solid!

Riesling trocken Selection Rheinhessen
Intense aroma, ripe stone fruit, peach and apricot, also a hint
of petrol and spicy impressions. Powerful and tightly-built on
the palate with good extract, dense and complex, the ripe
acidity is skilfully integrated with more spice and good minerality.

Weissburgunder trocken
Fruity nose of white and yellow flowers, apricot and apple,
also spice and with aromas of warm greenhouse. Well-balanced
on the palate with ripe acidity and clear fruit, powerful
structure, delicately spicy. Substantial, multi-layered and elegant.

Spicy aroma, ripe honeydew melon and pear, also lactic
notes. Juicy and soft on the palate, slender structure, mild,
well-integrated acid vein, subtle spiciness, clear in expression.
A well-balanced, versatile Chardonnay that cuts a fine

Spicy and floral notes, fully ripe pear, yellow flowers, some
mango lassi. Soft and supple on the palate, mild acidity,
sweet extract, lots of peppery, spicy notes, especially on the

Intense and powerful aroma of stone fruit, peach and mango,
yellow flowers and buttercup, spiciness. Powerful and
well-built on the palate with ripe acidity and texture, multi-layered,
spicy, with a chalky mineral accent, clear fruit
expression and good length. 13,5 Vol.-%, screwcap, €
