Up until now, whenever there was talk of
a pair of brothers making formidable
wines in Freinsheim, it was clear that
this talk was about Steffen and Andreas Rings.
Philipp and Johannes Reibold, however, are
slowly emerging as serious competitors. The
brothers have run Weingut Reibold since 2012
and their fifteen hectares of vines in sites like the
Freinsheimer Musikantenbuckel, Grosskarlbacher
Burgweg und Herxheimer Honigsack
have been certified organic since 2014. We tasted
a range of wines that had stature, a Riesling
full of tension and a smooth Spätburgunder “Im
grossen Garten” – a really strong performance!

Burgweg Riesling trocken
Still somewhat closed on the nose; stone fruit, apple and citrus
fruit, also yeast and notes of wet stone. Compact on the
palate with good density and substance, tension, supporting
acidity, fine phenolics and a long finish - full of character.

Burgweg Spätburgunder trocken
Spicy and powerful nose; a touch of lovage, smoke, coffee
beans, liquorice and dark berry fruit, cassis and cherry. Compact
power on the palate with good extract and finely polished
tannins, spicy and smooth in its flow - ambitious.

90 2018 Chardonnay trocken
Aromas of white peach, hazelnut, butter and toasted aromas,
also ripe mango. Powerful and firmly built on the palate
with good substance and ripe, savoury acidity. The wood
slowly integrates; mango and pineapple. A lot of Pfalz and a
touch of California. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
89 2019 Chardonnay & Weissburgunder tr.
Fresh apple and pear on the nose, white flowers, mirabelle
plums and tangerine. Clear and tidy on the palate there is a
linear structure, ripe fruit notes, juicy and fine residual
sweetness. Compact structure with balanced acidity and
touch of spice. Very clean style. 12,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €
90 2019 »vom Kalkstein« Riesling trocken
Mirabelle plums, apple and citrus fruit and herbs on the
nose. On the palate, a compact texture initially reveals
juicy creaminess, ripe acidity and mineral spiciness, dry
and purist; thoroughly multi-layered and multi-faceted.
