Ah well,” someone exclaimed at our editorial
offices after the first sip of sparkling
wine. “These guys just know
what they are doing…” No matter whether
red, white, rosé, dry or sweet, in a new barrique
or a concrete egg, made with or without addition
of sulphur dioxide, the wines of the Aldinger
brothers leave nothing to be desired.
The entire red portfolio is pervaded by a fine
nerve of freshness that not even the hot vintage
of 2018 managed to deter. The whites altogether
need more bottle age, but the Chardonnay
“Reserve” tenderly points into the direction of
what is possible for this variety in this country.

Freshly opened and a slight reductive nose with roasted notes,
needs more air contact. Great tension on the palate, integrated
cedar, apple, almond, fennel and anise nuances with acidic
power and yet very elegant. Burgundy comparisons can be annoying,
here they are appropriate. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
94 2018 »Ovum« Sauvignon Blanc trocken
Ovum indicates (partial) ageing in a concrete egg, but the nose
is dominated by barrique notes. No Sauvignon grassy notes
whatsoever, on the contrary - quite ripe notes. On the palate,
the aromas remain subtle, the wine amazes with a calm elegance,
immensely harmonious. 12,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Dark purple hues in the glass. Ripe and dense blackberry, a
hint of black mulberry. On the palate there is beautifully lively
fruit, matured perfectly with a superior composition. One
could assume that this could even take twenty years of barrel
maturation. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Scents of animal nuances, needs a little more air contact and
patience before plum, black cherry and elderberry jelly aromas
emerge. On the palate, simultaneously pithy, elegant
and with a cool ripeness that seems contradictory, but is simply
celebrated perfectly. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

slight lactic woody notes on the nose. On the palate, it has
tremendous substance and density for a rosé, and can
clearly pass as a high-quality white wine in blind tasting,
