Tasting his current range of wines, it is
hard to believe that Johannes Hasselback
has only been at the helm of this
estate for five years. His signature comes
across as dynamic and well-practised, the
wines have finesse and an irresistibly clear
style. The Grosse Gewächse manage to pack a
ton of extract into what remains taut and slender.
The entry-level wines are so focused on
minerality that we had trouble choosing our
Falstaff-tip: the Sauvignon is edgy, the Kabinett
“Jean Baptiste” is a pure classic, while the
Nackenheimer village Riesling is enchantingly
playful.

Herbal notes, apple peel, malt and herb bed, drive on the
nose. Clear and juicy on the palate, precise in expression,
lean and taut, crystalline, the acidity is as if drawn with a ruler
and the minerality expresses the Rote Hang. Youthful and

Herbal and spicy notes on the nose, some smoke, apple skin,
apricot, malt and hop flowers. Lean and firmly-built on the
palate with ripe and vivid acidity, phenolic and dense; considerable
intensity in a slender format, mineral and full of character.

Mineral and spicy on the nose, underpinned with ripe but not
overripe fruit, yellow plum, medlar. On the palate silky and
poised, fine acidity, peppery and mineral aromas, tactile
components, very dry but not rough in the slightest.

Kiwi and green gooseberry, a finely-spiced varietal scent.
Taut on the palate, with crunchy acidity, full-bodied and mineral,
straightforwardly dry and very persistent, especially the

Kabinett feinherb
Peppery and floral on the nose, the minerality of the Rote
Hang is easily recognisable. Juicy on the palate, delicious,
not overly sweet, fine-boned but long lasting acidity. A delicious
