Wine lovers will be aware of the village
of Achkarren, after all, its famous
Schlossberg site is one the best
for Pinot-varieties in the country. Solid volcanic
bedrock is buried under not much more than a
metre of topsoil and both vines (and growers)
sweat on this steep slope. Taming the heat of this
mountain is no easy task – but the co-op growers
get better and better at harvesting fruit for elegant,
mineral yet full-bodied wines. Their top
wines, like Spätburgunder “Edition A” and the
Grauburgunder-Jubiläumswein do more than
justice to the 90th anniversary of the founding
which the cooperative celebrated this year.

Light golden appearance. Strong new wood notes, banana, sultana,
apricot and buttery tones. On the palate this is bold, powerful
and has a somewhat isolated alcohol, concentrated acidity,
sultana impression in fruit and extract. Noticeably woody

Buttery notes on the nose, wax, rose, lychee. Powerful and voluminous
on the palate, with firm acidity and a hint of sweetness
highlighting the spiciness, strong but integrated alcohol, a hint

Schlossberg Gelber Muskateller trocken
Citrusy and slightly reductive, restrained nutmeg-spice, lemon
balm, leafy greens. On the palate there is good juiciness, lean
and cohesive, slightly yeast-influenced, ripe acidity, mineral
hints. An elegant food wine to go with oysters and shellfish.

Smoky-roasty aroma, elderberry and cranberry, dark berry
notes. On the palate there is full fruit, ripe and firm almost
fleshy tannins, discreet but sufficiently supporting acidity,
with noticeable palate presence and a clear mineral background.

A light touch of old-school Ruländer on the nose, apple,
spontaneous fermentation, spicy notes, caraway seeds.
Smooth and poised on the palate, silky with a delicate
wood influence, well-integrated acidity, lots of texture and
varietal fruit, a hint of sweetness, elegantly-staged richness.
