No, it is not just via his unusual wine label
designs that David Leiling draws
attention and shows that he has guts
to do things differently. On his 15 hectares of
vineyards, the majority of which are across the
French border, he uses the limestone terroir of
Schweigen and its surroundings to grow and
make precise Pinots and Rieslings. He presented,
among other things, a most gluggable rosé
with the practically unpronounceable name
“Prinzessin Vaaleanpunainen” as well as the
fascinating Spätburgunder project “Grandfather
Clones” – a Pinot with excellent ageing
potential.

Grauer Burgunder Spätlese trocken
Malty, iodine-like on the nose. Reminiscent of yeast flakes,
ripe pear, hazelnut. The wood, alluded to in the wine name is
noticeable on the palate. Marked creaminess with delicate
astringency, spicy aftertaste defined by the chalky terroir.

Intense Riesling aromas of grapefruit and lemon zest. The
acidity on the palate is intense and accompanied by a beautiful
minerality. A lovely round wine that makes you want to

Spicy scent, bay leaf, blood, almond, juniper. Very softly
drawn wine, then powerful mellow tannins, well integrated
ripe acidity. Appears very closed in structure, more spice
than fruit. Will need a lot of time. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Candied cherry on the nose, dried tomato, blackcurrant and
pepper notes. Supple and powerful on the palate, juicy fruit,
fine, plump tannins. An accessible, fruit-driven but also

Spätburgunder Rosé trocken
On the nose strawberry, spicy, also plum jam and a hint of
orange blossom. On the palate there is lovely freshness
and structure, supple. Well integrated acidity lends liveliness.
