This family-run estate is amongst the pioneers
of organic viticulture in Franken.
Gerhard Roth senior started growing
organically as early as 1974. In the meantime
he handed the reins of the estate to his
daughter Nicole – but with his invaluable experience
he still is active in the vineyards. It is
obvious that the interaction between the old
and new generation works really well here, the
wines express as much: each and every one of
them rests in itself and comes with great balance.
We particularly liked the juicy Silvaner
“Alte Reben” with its power and spice – an
ideal wine for the table.

Rich, clear yellow. On the nose a bit restrained at the beginning,
then notes of almond, pear and hints of hay appear. On the palate
a lot of texture, a little phenolic, extract and power, light
fruits are underlaid with spice, a lot of juice, dense structure and
length. Pairs well with white meat. 14 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€

Cloudy orange in appearance. On the nose quince and apple peel
with hints of rose and nutmeg and a dash of star anise; very aromatic.
Fine tannins on the palate, gripping, medium acidity, quince
reappears again, plus some a notion of almond. Good structure
and length, interesting orange wine. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Spätburgunder trocken
Medium red with garnet reflections. On the nose sloe, dark
cherry, tobacco, forest floor, spice and a whiff of smoke. On
the palate ripe tannins, dark fruits, sour cherry, smoke and
texture. Finely balanced, good structure and length, ideal
with saddle of venison. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Blaufränkisch
Clear cherry red hues. Spicy scents of clove, cherry and
blackberry. On the palate ripe tannins, coherent acidity
which coats the palate with spice and cherry, plus sloe berry
and forest floor nuances. Medium structure and length.
