Hans Hengerer is a founding member of
the winemakers’ grouping “Junges
Schwaben” (= young Swabia). From a
biological perspective, all of them are now men
in their prime – but they’ve resolutely remained
young at heart and mind. A sign of this is Hengerer’s
finely-executed orange wine “Josephine
trägt Orange.” This VDP-winemaker has never
been a man of many words, he prefers to be in
the vineyard among his vines or in the cellar.
“I want my wines to speak for themselves,” he
says and that’s just what they do. His Spätburgunder
Grosses Gewächs speaks most eloquently
with its silky tannins.

Powerful nose with ripe apricot and apricot tart scents, followed
by floral notes and spices. Supple and charming on the
palate, shows volume and also density, but also a cool vein;
the acidity is ripe, yet vivid and supportive. Has potential for
further maturation. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Cherry, blood orange and beetroot on the nose followed by
smoke and violets. A refined and spicy onset with textured, silky,
precise tannins. Shows power, ample extract, suppleness, depth
and elegance. Will continue to evolve. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Smoky ambience on the nose, followed by herbs, cherry and
beetroot notes. On the palate there is a powerful texture,
medium density which shows a vivid acid vein and mineral
spiciness, with tension and also elegance. Has not yet
reached the end of its possibilities. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Full, spicy bouquet with ripe blackberry, toasted aromas, tobacco,
juniper berry and ethereal, herbal nuances. Voluminous,
generous and dense on the palate with enormous spiciness,
supported by a stately tannin structure. A long and consistent finish
with lots of extract. Potential to age. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
