Sometimes it is most impressive to simply
let the scores do the talking: 95; twice
94; twice 93 and 92 points – this is a respectable
evaluation which Weingut Schmitt’s
Kinder has roundly deserved with its outstanding
range of wines. We already knew that
Martin Schmitt can make amazing dry Silvaners
and Rieslings. Now, however, he also presented
a Pinot Noir with lots of tension and
hinterland which happens to be among Franken’s
best. The formidable Beerenauslese of
Rieslaner absolutely merits mention as well.
Schmitt’s Kinder is on brilliant form!
95 2018 »Grosse Reserve« Randersacker
Spielberg Riesling trocken
Peach and yellow plum, discreet yeast with slightly flinty
mineral spicy undertones. With air contact also floral notes
appear - a true bouquet of aromas. Firm and immensely mineral
on the palate, almost salty and also with brilliant acidity.
Very long finish. 13 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€€
concentrated sweetness, nice interplay with the clear acidity,
a little saline, clear and precise. Still seems young and
needs time for the components to integrate.

Silvaner trocken
Some wood spice on the nose, plus an unravelling varietal
spice with some sesame, hay and linden blossom. Immediately
animating on the palate with intense, tactile minerality,
finely accompanied by phenolics, lots of juiciness in the
background. Very balanced. 14 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€€

Spätburgunder GG
Discreetly nutty boisée, sweet cherry, mineral and herbaceous
undertones. Taut on the palate, firm, slightly greenish
tannins albeit tense, accompanied by ripe acidity. A lot of extract,
a Pinot with a great future. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Rieslaner Beerenauslese
Apple, stone dust, dried fruit, apricot, peach and tangerine
aromas. These aromas also reassemble on the palate with

Spring meadows, sesame, sorrel, fresh and spicy, multi-layered
aromas. On the palate there is juice and silkiness,
almost Burgundy-like texture, a hint of wooden barrel,
finely chiselled acidity, plus a firm mineral base. Overall
combining Silvaner charm with tension.
