This Heitersheim Wiengut is amongst
Baden’s largest. Its 95 hectares are a
rather extended area to cultivate. Notwithstanding
that, the Zotz family actually
concern themselves with (apparently) minor
detail to make wines with a closely defined
provenance. Like the Pinot Noir “Hohlgässle’’,
which received many plaudits from the Falstaff
tasting team by virtue of its thoroughly
sophisticated density. It will age marvellously!
Amongst their white wines we were completely
taken with their flight of three Chardonnays
– there is something for everyone as well as
pairing well with a variety of culinary treats.
92 2018 »500« Heitersheim Maltesergarten
Chardonnay trocken
Wood and yeast, but also hops, sesame and vegetal notes. On
the palate there is some force, but fullness and core harmonise
well with each other, the substantial mid-palate is followed
by a stringent juicy finish. Overall, embracing minerality.
13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
91 2018 »Terrassen« Badenweiler Römerberg
Chardonnay trocken
Light vanilla notes from wood, linden blossom and a ripe citrus
note, more orange than lemon. Supple onset, textural
and woody sweetness lead into a taut, substantial structure
with firm, stable acidity. Chalky, salty and a dash of lime on
the finish. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
93 2018 »Hohlgässle« Pinot Noir trocken
Concentrated dark berry aromas, elderberry jam and blueberries,
discreet wood and earthy notes. On the palate there
is high compression, firm, ripe, artisan-like tannins, fleshy, respectful
and full of potential, firm acidity. Fresh and refined.
Powerful minerality. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
91 2018 »Terrassen« Badenweiler Römerberg
Pinot Noir trocken
Spicy on the nose, restrained wood accents, in addition a
"German" Spätburgunder scent, a touch of rubber tyres,
mountain bay leaf, elderberry. On the palate there is taut and
dense tannins backed by a solid structure, lively acidity. Juicy
with minerality. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
89 2019 »Alte Reben« Grauburgunder trocken
89 2019 Chardonnay trocken
89 2019 »Uff de Hefe« Gutedel trocken
89 Pinot & Chardonnay Brut
88 2019 Heitersheim Maltesergarten
Chasselas trocken
90 2018 Heitersheim Maltesergarten
Pinot Noir trocken
89 2018 »Alte Reben« Spätburgunder trocken
90 2019 »Alte Reben« Weissburgunder tr.
Straw flowers, chaff, some hops. Immediate onset of saltiness
on the palate, medium-weight in body and extract,
firm acidic backbone, quite an elegant, gastronomic construction.
Supple and mineral-adorned elegant wine.
13 Vol.-%, screwcap, €
