The Bremmer Calmont, Europe’s steepest
vineyard, is the habitat of Angelina
and Kilian Franzen. The fact that they
can handle this monumental mountain was already
evident when the Falstaff Jury voted
them “Newcomers of the Year” in 2018. Since
then, they have not forfeited its youthful energy
but their wines have gained more sobriety
and polish. The parcel selection “Fachkaul” is
exemplary in its subtlety – it manages to dissolve
that absolutely typical Calmont richness
into the ethereal. In order to remain entirely in
the estate’s diction: the enthusiasm was really
great.

Ripe spicy tones, but also still reductive echoes of youthfulness.
Poised and plump on the palate with a soft base and a
quite expansive, generous structure. Elegant, long-lasting
acidity, mineral extract and a very serious construction.

Riesling trocken
Some new wood, but also a nuanced Riesling spiciness, curry,
cumin, dried chilli, apple and ripe nectarine. Seamlessly
round and plump on the palate, sweetness and acidity are at
one with the body, the minerality supports but does not dominate.

Slate spice on the nose and crushed rock nuances. On the
palate there is great volume but also a lot of substance and
texture, still compactly clenched, ripe acidity and fruity accompanied
sweetness. A very characterful wine that translates
the warmth of the site into density.

Peach on the nose, peppery and balsamic notes with a hint of
over-ripeness. On the palate there are fine-grained phenolics
on a markedly soft background, a round flow accompanied by

Flint and yeast on the nose, some bergamot. On the palate
medium-bodied with a lively sweetness-acidity interplay, a
slight reductive tinge, lots of juiciness and a good balance
with mineral perceptions that remain present for a long
