While this winery in Ihringen charts a
steady course, it is always open to
lend a new perspective to received
wisdom. The 2019 vintage of the Winklerberg Silvaner
thus presents itself with so much bite and
crunch that it no longer bears any resemblance to
the ungainly Silvaner cliché of yesteryear. We believe
in the renaissance of this often-reviled grape
variety, which until not that long ago used to be
the most important in Ihringen. Apart from that
the estate continues at its customary, elevated
standard, especially with the 2017 Spätburgunder
Häusleboden at the top. A wine that impresses
immensely by the very finest means.

A fragrance of flint, honeydew melon, but still rather closed.
On the palate ripe and poised, delicate phenolics, mineral extract,
rich and yet differentiated albeit round and balanced,
slightly warming, but also with inner coolness. A refined
wine. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
smoky wood notes. Taut and firm on the palate, dense, almost
demanding tannins, embedded in suppleness and fullness.

Jasmine tea on the nose, apricot, ripe yellow apple, herbs,
flint and smoky elements. On the palate smoky, with substance
but also with acidity that is poised but present. Lots
of substance and also power, but balanced and minerally underpinned.

Sour cherry, cherry stone, sweet almond and herbal spicy
notes. On the palate, unbelievably substantial texture, and in
an incredibly fine fashion. Intensive tactile mineral underlay.
Structurally very long-lasting, fresh and juicy in the fruit, the
focus is stone. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€

Slightly citrusy on the nose, and clearly herbaceous. On the
palate there is a lot of juiciness and firm acidity and quite a
stately, smooth underpinned body. Intense tactile minerality.
A structured, fresh Silvaner that will mature well.
