While fungal-resistant grape varieties
only take up a fifth of plantings
at Weingut Gemmrich in
Württemberg’s Unterland, they made up four
of the six wines that were presented for tasting
this year. And the spectrum was wide:
from the powerful Muscaris which remain
gratifyingly firm in spite of almost alarming
analytical values, via a harmonious and dry,
easy-drinking white to a classic Lemberger.
All the wines were powerful. Perhaps Anja
and Simon Gemmrich, “Young Württemberg
Winemakers of the Year 2019”, will manage
to add more finesse in the future.

Muscaris trocken
Is this feasible? Barrique, bone-dry, 15 percent abv? As a
matter of fact, yes! Extremely grapey nose, lightly fortified
like a Muscat de Beaumes-de-Venise. On the palate, oak,
high viscosity, but surprisingly full of tension . Delightful and

Lemberger trocken
Mature colour, with a peppery scent, followed by clove and
prune notes. High piquancy with acidity and spiciness, the
latter also due to the alcohol. The fruit core is medium-weight
with a maraschino cherry note. No storage obligation, immediately

90 2015 »Cerubino Cabernet Cuvée« Beilstein
Wartberg trocken CU/CD
Mature in appearance and aroma, with notes of leather, bay
leaf and spice. On the palate, the alcohol gives the peppery
spice, but the fruit is not dull and offers a dark berry and
plummy counterpart. An ideal accompaniment to game.

Cabernet Cortis trocken
Chocolate and a mint scent similar to 'After Eight' chocolates,
fragrant, slightly malty, fine spice; first development
notes. On the palate there is fine-grained, tight tannins
flanked by strong alcohol. A recognisable Cabernet connection,
but comes with more force than the original.

Fresh-floral nose reminiscent of Sauvignon Blanc, quite intense
perfumed notes. On the palate there is fine acidity
and a certain residual sweetness, "harmoniously dry". Not
