Christian Dautel yet again presents a
most convincing range of wines that
covers a broad spectrum: from a mineral
Spätburgunder-GG, via Riesling to his substantial
whites in the “S” series and a bone-dry,
floral Sekt. Christian Dautel is one of the few
independent winemakers (i.e. not affiliated to
a cooperative) who owns parcels in the terraced
steep sites along the river Neckar. Our
Falstaff tip thus also is a plea for the preservation
of this unique cultural landscape. Those
looking for more density will love the Steingrüben-GG.

Riesling GG
Beautifully vivid yet supple scents of orange zest, bergamot
and some linden blossom. Dense on the palate, perfect
sweetness-acidity tension, not at all overwrought and with
the necessary spicy extract for the future development.
Good prospects for maturation. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
with wonderful mineral freshness and will continue to develop.

A little more grippy on the nose than the Pinot Blanc with
scents of walnut shell, fennel and well-integrated wood.
Very dense, ripe, viscous matter on the palate, reflecting the
vintage but not letting the wine lose its structure. Mâconnais
style. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€
91 2016 »Pinot« brut nature
Extremely restrained, floral nose. Good mousse, very taut on
the palate, even a light tannic grip, with some red berry impression.
Completely unpretentious, aromatically-subtle. It
could perhaps have needed a little longer yeast age complexity.

Spätburgunder GG
Fragrant nose, sweet cherry, some rose and a hint of cloves.
Medium-bodied on the palate, elegantly composed, with vivid
fruit. Currently still on the slightly spicy side, already scores
90 2019 Besigheim Wurmberg Riesling tr.
Wonderfully zesty fruit from lemon zest to pear and walnut
on the nose. On the palate, the wine from a terraced
steep slope is quite grippy and medium-bodied. Mustard
flour and coriander seed nuances merge with the fruit
notes. 12,5 Vol.-%, cork, €€
