Who would have thought – even a
few short years ago – that this bastion
of Trollinger, the Canstatter
Zuckerle site, would one day enter the spotlight
with Merlot. But the variety fits the site
well: the excellent 2017 vintage from the municipal
wine estate Weingut der Stadt Stuttgart
leaves no doubt. All the wines are testament to
the good work of Timo Saier, Frank Haller and
their team: the wines are much fresher and
more courageous today – but this is not just effect
for effect’s sake, as is shown by their “Orange”:
even traditional Stuttgart wine lovers
would approve.
91 2018 Bad Cannstatt Zuckerle Riesling tr.
Quite complex on the nose and very fresh aromas of citrus,
herbs and a hint of yeast. On the palate slender, juicy and
slightly carbonated. An elegant Kabinett style on the palate,
and this with extract and very good mineral definition.
12 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
91 2019 »Orange« trocken
Dark golden. Balsamic and intensely herbaceous on the nose,
wormwood, thyme and a digestif herbal bitter note. On the
palate there are powdery phenolics and immediately animating
spicy peppery notes. Not too extreme in the palate structure,
dense and juicy with ripe acidity. Stylish.
13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€
92 2017 Bad Cannstatt Zuckerle Merlot tr.
Herbal-spicy aromas with notes of moss. On the palate there
are grainy tannins, quite a fruity body, well-integrated acidity
with juice and texture in the background. A stylish varietal
style, "classically German" interpreted with restrained wood
influence. 13,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €€
92 2018 Stuttgart Mönchhalde
Spätburgunder tr.
Spontaneous fermentation notes, wild cherry and floral undertones.
On the palate very dense, dry, taut and gripping with ripe
acidity. A bold wine that shows the variety from its sturdy side.
Despite all density, not overpowering. 13,5 Vol.-%. screwcap, €
90 2016 Riesling Brut
89 2018 Stuttgart Mönchhalde
Weissburgunder trocken
87 2019 Stuttgart Mönchhalde
Sauvignon Blanc trocken
91 2016 Spätburgunder Rosé Brut
90 2017 Stuttgart Mönchhalde Syrah trocken
92 2018 Stuttgart Mönchhalde
St. Laurent trocken
Cranberry compote, milk chocolate with a nuanced berry
scent. Finely-extracted on the palate, fresh and finegrained
tannins, an immediately animating herbal spiciness,
which combines elegance with density. A gastronomic
red to accompany game dishes or porcini mushroom risotto.
13 Vol.-%, screwcap, €€
