Who would have thought that the
beautiful village of Wiesenbrunn
can bring forth such great Grauburgunder?
Mario Hofmann crafted it in vineyard
and cellar into a berry-ish varietal type,
showing its Pinot-genes while nonetheless carring
quite a bit of its Steigerwald subregion
typicity. We also loved the Silvaner “1712”
whose name recalls the founding year of this estate
while presenting itself in a vivid and contemporary
style. We doubt that previous generations
were able to make Spätburgunder quite
like this full-bodied example from 2015 – but at
least there is one upside to global warming.

Burgunder Spätlese trocken
Light golden in colour. Quite clear on the nose, berry aromas,
quince, blueberry and butterscotch. Corpulent palate, lively
acidity, quite dry; the strong alcohol is seamlessly covered by

Ripe banana, hazelnut, Turkish delight and with a little more
air increasingly herbaceous. Powerful on the palate, firm
acidity, full-bodied, still closed, but with a clear mineral
background and good substance. A sturdy construction.

89 2015 »Weinart« Pinot Noir trocken
A scent of milk chocolate, cranberry and fig compote. On the
palate there are grainy tannins thatare only just beginning to
mellow, with powerful alcohol and well-integrated acidity.
Good tactile mineral components, underlying juiciness.

90 2019 Silvaner Auslese
Fresh and herbaceous on the nose, with mirabelle plums,
ripe yellow fruit without too much botrytis. On the palate
there is good sweetness-acidity interplay, vintage-typical
nerve meets lovely creaminess. All is accompanied by good
substance, not an overloaded Auslese.

Kabinett trocken
Fragrant, notes of peach stones and fresh citrus zest with a
balsamic herbal spiciness. On the palate, light-bodied,
juicy, fine-nerved acidity and quite obvious sweetness. A
sophisticated summer wine that will also refresh in winter.
