Much has changed and evolved since
Daniel Rhein joined Wein- und Sektgut
Hummel in 2015. He started out
as cellar master but soon took over the entire
estate. New grape varieties were planted, Sekt
production was increased, permanent green
cover was introduced in the vineyards, alongside
selective harvesting. Then there is the fact
that the wines are given sufficient time to develop
depth and longevity. A whole bunch of
measures which are reflected in the rising quality
of the wines. Alongside the substantial
Chardonnay “Reserve”, the powerful and savoury
red wines are most convincing.

Chardonnay trocken
Ripe apricot on the nose, also dried apricot and candied walnuts
and honey wafer notes. Powerful and buttery on the palate
with a nice fine spicy base, some cinnamon, candied orange
peel, both power and alcohol are well-integrated. Can
mature and pairs well with food. 15 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Spätburgunder Auslese trocken
Ruby red with a slight rim brightening. Spicy and smoky nose,
with scents of raspberry, wild strawberry, rosehip and some
smoky bacon. Powerful and broad on the palate, good extract
and ripe acidity that sets the tone, monumental Auslese with
a lot of power. 14 Vol.-%. cork, €€€€

Lemberger trocken
Blackberry and mulberry in the intense nose, balsamic spice,
fresh beetroot and ground ginger, smoke. Dry, spicy and powerful
on the palate, notes of tobacco, ripe tannin, the acidity
is there and stays, elderberry, tart freshness, ideal with
braised meat. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Spätlese trocken PN/ME/SY/RE
Blend of Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah and Regent, which smells
spicy of ripe red fruit, black cherry and blackberry with spicy
and smoky notes. On the palate there is good freshness and
lively tannins, which supports the freshness, fine astringency,
great wih meat. 13 Vol.-%. cork, €€
