the continuity of this top estate in Dernau.
Fresh fruitiness, density and mineral
definition – that is the style their father Werner
introduced to the Ahr almost 30 years ago,
which in those days was downright revolutionary.
His daughters are now fine-tuning
tannins to an even greater degree and ensuring
that this diva -Spätburgunder continues to feel
right at home in the steep Ahr vineyards, enduring
global warming. What they came up
with in 2018 is simple brilliance. There are Pinot
Noirs that are deserving of their name:
world class, yet preserving local character.

Violets, blackberry and elderberry, fresh and well-defined
aromas. Also fruit-driven on the palate, almost fruit-juicelike
in its intensity. Silky, dense tannin and an immensely
penetrating tactile minerality. The sublimation of a Pinot

plum and redcurrant. On the palate there is silky extracted
tannins, fine juice and flow, nevertheless plump due to the
vintage. Spicy, fine tartness, finely harmonised acidity, precise

Mineral on the nose followed by scents of tree resin, green
tea, mineral cherry and cassis. Depicting maturity in all components,
but still surprisingly fresh. Mellow tannins, good
volume, with texture but also with generosity, ripe acidity,
minerality that ends with a plump fruity smoothness.

Slightly restrained but slight hints of dark berries and dark
chocolate, also green tea and bitter-mineral notes. Creamy
base, almost sweet on the mid palate, mellow-grainy tannins,
dense, very powerful extract, a bold wine with a very
long life expectancy. 13,5 Vol.-%. cork, €€€

Appealing nose with very fine fruit, elderberry, sweet cherry,

Delicate cream colour. Grapey on the nose, very pure Pinot.
Fresh and juicy on the palate, fine acidity, slightly salty,
lean and yet expressive. Natural, unadorned fruit of the
